Sanhaogou Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Simao Basin. The naming section is located in Wenxian of Jinggu County (N23°31′00'; E100°42′00″), west of the city. It is measured by the Ninth Part of Regional Survey Team of Yunnan Bureau of Geology in 1981. Named by Xin-Hua Duan of the Regional Survey Team of Yunnan Bureau of Geology in 1982 and published by Yunnan Bureau of Geology and Resources formally in 1990.
Synonym: The Dajie Fm, which named by the Chengdu Bureau of Geology and Resource of Chinese Academy of Science, has been considered as a synonymy.
Lithology and Thickness
This formation consists of gray to deep gray sandstone, siltstone and mudstone, with lignite, oil sandstone, and conglomerate rock. It has a thickness 374-1529 m, with the thickest 2454 m and the thinnest 53 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Lying uncomfortably above the Paleogene Mengyejing Fm or the Mengla Gr.
Upper contact
None given.
Regional extent
This formation was found in Jinggu, Zhenruan, Weixi, Jiangcheng, Puer, and Mengla, southwest of Yunan.

Fossils
The formation produces the famous Jinggu Flora, including Magnolia, Quercus, Carpinus, Phyllites. The ostracods fossils are also ample, including Potamocypris-Candona group (Liu, 1992).

Depositional setting
The strata are deposited under fluvial-delta-shore lake facies.
